Wooden Flooring Cost per Sq Ft
Estimate engineered or solid wood flooring cost for your area, including boards, adhesive and installation. Wood carries the widest price band of any flooring on this site, so the species and construction you choose matters more than the labour rate.

Short answer
Wooden Flooring
₹337 – ₹985 / sq ft installed
Material ₹250–₹800 · fitting ₹45–₹90 · 1,000 sq ft = ₹3,37,000 – ₹9,84,500
Engineered vs solid
Engineered boards use a thin hardwood wear layer over plywood. They are more stable in Indian humidity swings, install faster, and sit in the lower half of the band. Solid hardwood costs more, moves more with the season, and needs an experienced installer — but can be sanded and refinished several times.
Budget beyond the boards
- Moisture barrier and levelling on ground-floor slabs
- Beading or matching skirting, charged per running foot
- Periodic polishing or re-coating every few years
- Acclimatisation time on site before installation begins
We do not publish an expected lifespan for wood flooring. Service life depends almost entirely on wear layer thickness, humidity control and maintenance, and any single number would be misleading.

Why flooring prices vary
- Material quality and brand
- Two vitrified tiles of the same size can differ 3x in price by grade, finish and brand.
- City and labour market
- Metro labour rates run higher than tier-2 cities; transport adds to material landed cost.
- Floor condition
- An uneven or damaged base needs levelling screed before any flooring can be laid.
- Tile or plank size
- Large formats cost more to handle and lay, but use less adhesive and grout per sq ft.
- Wastage
- Cutting, breakage and pattern matching typically consume 5–10% more material than the floor area.
- Removal of existing flooring
- Breaking and disposing of an old floor is charged separately, usually per sq ft.
- Installation pattern
- Diagonal, herringbone and mixed-size layouts increase both cutting waste and labour.
- Transportation and lifting
- Site access, floor level and lift availability change delivery and shifting charges.
How this estimate is calculated
Every figure on this page comes from the same formula. Rates are stored as configurable low–high bands per flooring type, overridden by city-level bands where we have them, then scaled by the quality level you pick.
effective_area = floor_area x (1 + wastage% / 100) material_cost = effective_area x material_rate labour_cost = floor_area x labour_rate adhesive_cost = floor_area x adhesive_rate grout_cost = floor_area x grout_rate other_cost = floor_area x other_rate total_cost = material + labour + adhesive + grout + other
Areas entered in square metres are converted using 1 sq m = 10.7639 sq ft. The low total uses every low rate and the high total uses every high rate, so the displayed range is deliberately wide — real quotations usually land somewhere in the middle.
Rates are configurable estimates maintained in our own database, not scraped live market prices, and we do not publish supplier names, reviews or ratings we cannot verify. Rate configuration last reviewed: September 2026.
